Gates XL® V-belts have special design features ? fiber-loaded reinforcement and molded notches ? that reduce maintenance and extend the belt's service life. The reinforcement on the top of the belt provides greater lateral stability, and additional flexibility along the length of the belt. Also, tensile cords within the XL belt contract slightly as the belt warms to its normal operating temperature. This feature reduces maintenance because once they are properly installed, XL belts rarely need to be retensioned. The variable notching pattern on the belt's underside increases flexibility, reduces noise and allows a tighter bend radius over the smaller diameter pulleys. The molded notches also trap air and dissipate heat, allowing the XL belt to cool itself. This reduces wear and deterioration caused by higher temperatures.
